The first school taught in Fossil dates back to 1875 with 12 students attending on horseback. Fossil Grade School now consists of kindergarten and combination classes of 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4rth, 5th and 6th and 7th and 8th. Fossil Grade School has a strong curriculum in "the basics" and also boasts a very active student body with involvement in a wide variety of extra curricular activities. The grade school's mascot is the eagle and the school colors are green and white.
